This is my favorite double negative. (You know the saying: don’t use no double negatives. Well forget that.) Most double negatives are unnecessary and irritating. But in most cases, replacing “like” with “not unlike” is much more poetic. As seen:
Her skin was not unlike ice.
His eating habits are not unlike that of a bird.
This food [...]
I like things. But I'm weird about it. I ramble about my addictions. I go on for a week about new RAM, listen to the same album over & over for a solid month, or buy a stack of new books when I have two shelves of literature I haven't yet read.
I have also edited that previous paragraph thrice. And I just used the word "thrice" in standard conversation. Yeah.
